India pacer Akash Deep is preparing for a new innings off the field as he gets set to marry Akshita Raj in Varanasi. Ahead of the wedding, his native village of Baddi in Bihar’s Rohtas district has turned festive, with traditional ceremonies and celebrations drawing family members, friends and well-wishers from across the region.
The Indian fast bowler, who was ruled out of the recently concluded Indian Premier League due to a lower-back stress injury, last represented India during the tour of England last year. His most recent appearance came in the fifth Test at The Oval, where he returned figures of 1/80 and 1/85. Following the match, a series of injury setbacks kept him out of action and resulted in his omission from subsequent Indian squads.
While a return to international cricket will be his immediate priority, Akash Deep currently remains focused on a significant milestone off the field. With wedding bells ringing, the fast bowler has been taking part in traditional pre-wedding ceremonies, including the tilak, mehendi and haldi functions, which have been held over the past few days at his native village of Baddi in Bihar’s Rohtas district.
On the wedding day, Akash Deep’s baraat will travel from the village to a five-star hotel in Varanasi, where the ceremony will be held in the presence of family members, relatives and invited guests.
He is tying the knot with Akshita Raj, a resident of Manikpur in Dehri, who belongs to a local family and is the daughter of Amit Singh. According to family members, the marriage was arranged with the consent of both families and has been conducted in accordance with traditional customs.
As photographs of the bride-to-be surfaced on social media ahead of the wedding, they quickly gained attention among cricket fans and local residents. Those familiar with the family describe Akshita as a soft-spoken and grounded individual who has spent most of her life in Dehri.
Akash Deep’s Mother Shares Her Happiness
With wedding festivities taking over the household, Akash Deep’s mother, Laddooma Devi, expressed her joy ahead of the ceremony.
“My son is a traditional Indian young man, and he has chosen an Indian woman as his life partner. This marriage is taking place with the blessings and approval of the family,” she said.
The atmosphere in Baddi village has been festive, with relatives and neighbours joining in the celebrations. Traditional wedding songs have echoed through the household, while ceremonies such as mehendi and haldi have been conducted in the lead-up to the wedding.
Akash Deep Dances at Tilak Ceremony
Before the wedding, Akash Deep was seen enjoying himself at his tilak ceremony, where videos of the Indian pacer dancing to Bhojpuri songs went viral on social media.
The cricketer reportedly spent hours celebrating with childhood friends and guests as Bhojpuri singers and performers entertained the gathering. Residents of the village described the event as more of a “Tilak Utsav” than a conventional tilak ceremony, given the scale of the celebrations.
Akash Deep, best known for his exploits with the ball for India, surprised many with his energetic dance moves on stage. Videos from the event showed the fast bowler enthusiastically participating in the festivities as villagers gathered to witness the celebrations.
With the wedding now just around the corner, excitement continues to build in Baddi village as one of Bihar’s most prominent sporting figures prepares to begin a new chapter in his life.
