“India is the second largest export hub of Nissan after Sunderland with cars being shipped to countries in Latin America, Africa, Middle East and Asia-Pacific,” the MD said.

Nissan Motor India that sold 99,000 units, including 28,000 units in the domestic market and 71,000 units in exports, in 2024-25, is targeting double the sales in two years with half of it coming from the domestic market. That is almost a four-fold growth target in the domestic market in two years.

While Nissan’s B-segment SUV Magnite is the only product driving sales in the domestic market now, the company plans to introduce four more products by 2026-27 including a seven-seater B-segment MUV built on the CMF-A platform that also underpins the Renault Triber; 5- and 7-seater C-SUVs based on CMF-B platform also used in the soon-to be launched Renault Duster and an EV. “Of these, at least two vehicles will be introduced by mid-next year – the Nissan B-MPV by March 2026 and 5-seater C-SUV by June 2026.”

“While four of the cars will have petrol engines, we are also exploring other options including CNG and hybrid. In terms of body style, we will focus on SUVs. We are also expanding our network and plan to add 35-80 touchpoints to the existing count of 282,” said Nissan India MD Saurabh Vatsa.

Nissan last had as many products in its portfolio over a decade ago. At present, Nissan India exports cars to 65 countries. These include the Sunny sedan, the C-segment Kicks SUV and the B-segment Magnite SUV.

“India is the second largest export hub of Nissan after Sunderland with cars being shipped to countries in Latin America, Africa, Middle East and Asia-Pacific,” the MD said.

Notwithstanding its ambitions, Nissan faces significant challenges including an extremely competitive market where its market share is less than 1% despite its two-decade-long presence.
