Mercedes-Benz India celebrated a production milestone by rolling out its 200,000th locally manufactured car, an EQS SUV, from its Pune plant. This achievement underscores the company’s growth in India and its commitment to local manufacturing. The event was attended by key figures including Dr. Jörg Burzer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, and Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India.

“Mercedes-Benz’s remarkable milestone of 200,000 ‘Made in India’ Mercedes-Benz cars, underlines India’s potential as a key manufacturing hub in the long run. The Indian production hub’s contribution to our global sustainable manufacturing strategy, through 100% renewable energy use, exemplifies our commitment to sustainable manufacturing,” said Dr. Jörg Burzer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG Production, Quality & Supply Chain Management.

“Mercedes-Benz production facility is the backbone of our Indian operations and has played a critical role in our market success, manufacturing world-class ICE and BEV products for the discerning Indian customers. We will stay invested in our state-of-art manufacturing facility, catering to growing market demand for Mercedes-Benz products in the Indian market,” said Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India.

Manufacturing capacity

Mercedes-Benz India’s production has accelerated significantly. The company produced 50,000 cars in its first 19 years (1995-2014). It then produced another 150,000 units in just a decade (2015-2025). Remarkably, 50,000 cars were manufactured in just over the past two years. The company’s Chakan facility has achieved several firsts. It was the first location outside Germany to produce the Mercedes-Maybach S500 in 2015. The Chakan facility’s focus on electric vehicle production positions Mercedes-Benz at the forefront of sustainable luxury mobility in India.

The plant also spearheaded local production of the EQS 580 Sedan in 2022, marking a key step in electric vehicle manufacturing. Mercedes-Benz also became the first manufacturer to localize production of a second electric vehicle (BEV) in India with the EQS 580 SUV. The Pune facility has been entirely powered by green energy since 2022.

With 11 locally produced models, Mercedes-Benz offers the widest range of “Made in India” luxury vehicles. The company has invested INR 3,000 crores in India, the highest investment by any luxury car manufacturer in the country, with an additional INR 200 crores invested in 2024.

Mercedes-Benz India’s expansive retail network ensures accessibility and consistent customer experience across the country.
