Former Indian off-spinner Sarandeep Singh said that Noor Ahmad has the potential to lead the spin-attack for Afghanistan in the future. Having made his debut for the Afghans back in 2022, Noor has played only 13 ODIs and 14 T20Is. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), the 20-year-old Noor has taken 36 wickets from 30 matches at an economy rate of 7.83.
But it’s his performance in IPL 2025 that has hogged the limelight while playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Noor is currently the Purple Cap holder in the tournament, having taken 12 wickets from seven games at an economy rate of 7.12. Once he took four wickets for 18 runs in CSK’s opening game against Mumbai Indians (MI), Noor hasn’t looked back.
“Noor is a complete package – he flights the ball, turns it both ways, and deceives batters in the air. He’s not just a back-up anymore. He has the potential to lead the spin charge for Afghanistan”, Sarandeep told PTI.
‘No surprise element’
Sarandeep also talked about the reasons behind Rashid Khan’s underwhelming performances for the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL. In six games, Rashid has taken only four wickets at an economy rate of 9.77. Sarandeep said that batters have figured out ways to read the googlies from the Afghan tweaker.
“The reason behind Rashid’s failure in the last two seasons is that batters have figured him out. There’s no surprise element anymore – mostly googlies, and all at one pace,” Sarandeep said.
The Titans are on top of the table with eight points and a net run rate of +1.081. The Super Kings, on the other hand, are struggling at the bottom of the table, although they won their previous game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by five wickets.
