Australia’s Charles Bannerman scored the first-ever century in Test cricket, recording 165 runs in his debut match.
Dennis Amiss followed as the first player to score a century in an ODI, with 103 runs against Australia in 1972. In T20 cricket, West Indies’ Chris Gayle was the first to achieve this feat, scoring a century against South Africa in 2007.
Historic Milestones: Double, Triple, and 400 Runs in Test Cricket
Australia’s Billy Murdock set the record for the first double century in Test cricket in 1884, scoring 211 runs against England. England’s Andy Sandham broke another barrier in 1930 with the first triple century in Test cricket, scoring 325 runs against West Indies.
In 2004, India’s Virender Sehwag made history by becoming the first Indian to score a triple century in Test cricket, with 309 runs against Pakistan. The all-time record for the most runs in a single Test innings belongs to Brian Lara, who scored an astonishing 400 runs against England in 2004.

In ODIs, Sachin Tendulkar was the first to score a double century, achieving the feat against South Africa in 2010. Rohit Sharma, however, holds the record for the most ODI double centuries, with three.
Hat-Trick Legends in Cricket
The first Test hat-trick in cricket history was claimed by Australia’s Frederick Spofforth in 1878 against England. Pakistan’s Jalaluddin became the first to take a hat-trick in ODIs, doing so against Sri Lanka in 1982. In T20 cricket, Australia’s Brett Lee was the first to claim a hat-trick, achieving this feat against Bangladesh in 2007.
India’s Chetan Sharma was the first Indian to take an ODI hat-trick in 1987. Notably, Lasith Malinga of Sri Lanka remains the only player to have taken three ODI hat-tricks.
