Divyanka Tripathi, who is currently recovering from dengue, is facing an unusual issue — extreme itching — her husband and actor Vivek Dahiya shared on their YouTube vlog. “Aaj subah Divyanka ko bahut zyaada itching start ho gayi. (Since this morning, Divyanka has been experiencing a lot of itching). She became a khujli master. Then we called the doctor, who advised an antihistamine medicine which is to be taken twice a day,” he said.

“Kya aap logon ko pata tha ki dengue me khujli bhi hoti hai? It is crazy. I am getting rashes,” added Divyanka.

So, we asked an expert.

Dr Ahmed Khan, internal medicine, consultant diabetologist and infectious disease specialist, Medicover Hospitals, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, said while recovering from dengue, some people may experience extreme itching, which can be frustrating.

“This can usually happen as you are in your healing process. The immune system is responsible for fighting off this virus, which can further lead to skin irritation or dryness, resulting in an itch. It is essential to understand that itching can be a sign that your body is slowly recovering from dengue. However, if the itching worsens or persists for a longer duration, then consider consulting a doctor immediately,” said Dr Khan.

If you are experiencing extreme itching while recovering from dengue, then it becomes crucial to take utmost care of your health and stay vigilant.

Dr Khan advised that one should try to avoid the urge to scratch aggressively to reduce scarring.

“This is because excessive scratching can worsen your condition and also increase the risk of infection. Individuals are advised to apply a cool and gentle moisturiser or lotion on the itchy area for instant relief. Always wear soft and loose clothes. Avoid tight clothes or hot showers. Stay hydrated by drinking lots of water,” suggested Dr Khan, adding that one can take an antihistamine medicine only after approval from one’s medical practitioner.
