Chennai Super Kings were bowled out for 190 runs in 19.2 overs at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium after being asked to bat first by Punjab Kings in their IPL 2025 clash. Punjab’s Yuzvendra Chahal stole the spotlight by claiming the first hat-trick of the season, dismantling CSK’s lower order.

Chennai’s innings: Curran shines amid collapse

CSK’s innings got off to a shaky start with openers Sheikh Rashid (11 off 12) and Ayush Mate (7 off 6) failing to capitalize. Ravindra Jadeja added a quick 17, while Dewald Brevis contributed 32 off 26 balls.

The standout performance came from Sam Curran, who smashed 88 runs off just 47 deliveries, including 9 boundaries and 4 sixes. His aggressive knock gave Chennai a fighting total. MS Dhoni added 11 runs from 4 balls before the lower order collapsed.

Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj, and Noor Ahmad were all dismissed without scoring, as Chennai was bundled out for 190.

Chahal’s hat-trick turns the tide

Yuzvendra Chahal produced a match-defining spell, taking 4 wickets and registering the first hat-trick of IPL 2025. His clinical performance derailed CSK’s momentum at a crucial stage. Marco Jansen also picked up 2 wickets, while Arshdeep Singh, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Harpreet Brar chipped in with one wicket each.
