Gujarat Titans (GT) registered their first win of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, defeating Mumbai Indians (MI) by 36 runs in the 9th match of the season at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While GT opened their account with this win, MI suffered their second consecutive loss.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra was caught on camera losing his cool during the match against Mumbai Indians. His animated reaction on the sidelines quickly went viral on social media.

What triggered Nehra’s frustration?

After winning the toss, Mumbai Indians opted to bowl first. Gujarat Titans openers, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, gave a solid start with a 76-run stand. Jos Buttler also contributed 39 off 24 balls.

In the 19th over of Gujarat Titans’ innings, big-hitter Sherfane Rutherford, who was gaining momentum, was dismissed after scoring 18 off 10 balls. His wicket sparked a mini-collapse, with GT tumbling from 179/3 to 179/6 in just three deliveries, denting their hopes of setting a big total, possibly 200-plus runs.

During the 19th over, GT lost two back-to-back wickets, leading to an outburst from Nehra. He was seen shouting at his players, visibly frustrated with the turn of events.

Despite the late collapse, Gujarat Titans managed to recover, thanks to some powerful hits from Kagiso Rabada and Rashid Khan. Their crucial blows helped GT post a competitive total of 196/8 in 20 overs.

Mumbai Indians struggle in chase

Chasing a target of 197, Mumbai Indians failed to build partnerships and fell short, managing only 160/6 in their 20 overs. Despite Suryakumar Yadav’s 48-run effort, the batting lineup couldn’t step up, leading to another disappointing defeat for the five-time champions.

After losing the toss, Gujarat Titans were asked to bat first and got off to a solid start. Sai Sudharsan played a brilliant knock of 63 off 41 balls, while skipper Shubman Gill contributed 38 and Jos Buttler added 39. GT posted a challenging total of 196/8, which proved too much for Mumbai to chase down.
