What looked like a costly moment of frustration turned into one of sheer relief for Himmat Singh and New Delhi Tigers in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) on Tuesday, as the captain effected a freak run-out off the final ball to force a Super Over in a dramatic finish.
Chasing 136 in a 15-over contest, Outer Delhi Warriors needed just one run from the last delivery to seal victory. The batter attempted a big hit but could only push the ball straight down the ground. Although the single was never really on with Himmat positioned close to the non-striker’s end, both batters took off knowing it was the final ball of the innings.
Himmat reached the ball in time but fumbled what appeared to be a straightforward run-out chance. In frustration, he kicked the ball away. In an extraordinary twist, the ball rolled directly onto the stumps at the non-striker’s end before Pratham Saluja could make his ground, resulting in a run-out and bringing the match level.
The extraordinary sequence quickly went viral on social media. Himmat’s body language captured the drama of the moment as his frustration instantly turned into celebration after realising the ball had crashed into the stumps. Several of his teammates, who had their heads in their hands after the initial fumble, erupted in celebration as the match headed into a Super Over.
Outer Delhi Warriors, however, held their nerve to win the contest in the Super Over after surviving the dramatic finish.
The incident has become one of the most talked-about moments of the ongoing DPL, with the final-ball drama drawing widespread attention online.
Himmat made his Indian Premier League debut for Lucknow Super Giants in 2025 after joining the franchise as a replacement for Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh. He had caught the eye during the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scoring 197 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 148.
The right-handed batter is yet to make a significant impact in the IPL. He did not get an opportunity to bat in the three matches he played during the 2025 season. In 2026, he featured in six matches, scoring 92 runs at an average of 30.67 and a strike rate of 133.33.
The 2026 edition of the Delhi Premier League began on July 31. The league stage will conclude on August 25, with the final scheduled to be played on August 30. While Outer Delhi Warriors eventually walked away with the win, Himmat’s bizarre final-ball run-out is likely to remain one of the defining moments of this year’s tournament.
