Tanzid Hasan Tamim became the first Bangladesh batter to score a Test century in Australia, completing a 188-ball hundred during the first Test against Australia in Darwin. The 25-year-old’s breakthrough innings continued Bangladesh’s superb start after their bowlers had dismissed the hosts for 198.
Playing only his second Test, Tanzid built his innings patiently before accelerating as Bangladesh moved ahead of Australia’s first-innings total. The left-hander found support from captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, with the pair looking to stretch Bangladesh’s advantage after a dominant opening day.

Tanzid had already brought up his maiden Test fifty earlier in the innings and reached the century mark after continuing his composed stay at the crease. His knock also took him past Hannan Sarkar’s previous Bangladesh record of 76 for the highest individual Test score by a Bangladeshi batter in Australia.
The century added another highlight to what has already been a memorable Test for Bangladesh. Hasan Mahmud had earlier ripped through Australia’s batting line-up with 6/55, helping dismiss a star-studded home side for 198 and putting the visitors in an excellent position to take control of the Test.
TANZID MAKES HISTORY
Tanzid’s hundred has rewritten Bangladesh’s record books in Tests played on Australian soil. Hannan Sarkar’s 76 at Cairns in 2003 had remained the highest individual score by a Bangladesh batter in Australia for more than two decades.
The young opener has now surpassed that mark in just his second Test. His innings has also come against an Australian attack featuring Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon, making the achievement even more significant.
Tanzid and Mominul Haque had earlier combined for 102 runs for the second wicket before Mominul was dismissed for 49, caught behind off Hazlewood.
BANGLADESH BUILD BIG LEAD
With Mominul gone, Shanto joined Tanzid and the Bangladesh captain continued to provide valuable support at the other end. Their partnership ensured that Australia’s bowlers could not build sustained pressure as the visitors continued to add to their advantage.
Bangladesh had entered the second day with momentum after Hasan Mahmud’s six-wicket haul had reduced Australia to 198. The visitors’ batting response has now put them in an even stronger position, with Tanzid’s historic century providing the defining moment of the innings.
For a player appearing in only his second Test, the knock represents a significant statement. More importantly for Bangladesh, it has placed them firmly in control of a Test in which they began as the underdogs.
