The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has suspended the licence of Marche Retail Private Limited in New Delhi for 30 days and issued a prohibition order against SDP Industries Private Limited in Daman following separate food safety and product compliance violations.
FSSAI directed Marche Retail to halt all food business activities until the identified deficiencies are rectified and compliance is verified by the authorities.

Why FSSAI Suspended Marche Retail’s Licence In Delhi

Inspections at the retailer found shortcomings in sanitation, personal hygiene, food-handler training, operational controls and establishment design.

The establishment earned a compliance score of just 37%, placing it firmly in the regulator’s “Non-Compliance” category.

Authorities also found deficiencies in mandatory record-keeping, including the absence of required medical records for food handlers.

Inadequate segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian products and deficiencies in temperature controls were also identified.

The audit revealed an unauthorised commercial kitchen functioning on-site without a valid FSSAI licence.
What Did Lab Tests Reveal About SDP Industries’ Ghee Products?
Laboratory analysis detected beta-sitosterol, a plant sterol not expected to be present in genuine ghee, along with an irregular fatty-acid composition. According to FSSAI, the findings indicated the possible presence of foreign or vegetable fats in the products.
SDP Industries challenged the initial laboratory findings, following which samples were sent to a Referral Food Laboratory for re-analysis. The subsequent testing also confirmed the products’ non-compliance.
FSSAI said repeated violations across multiple samples, different periods and product variants strengthened the basis for regulatory action against the Daman manufacturer.

The regulator’s prohibition order against SDP Industries, based in Ringanwada, Daman, covers all ghee variants manufactured, stored or sold by the company. SDP Industries has been directed to immediately stop the sale of all its ghee products until further orders.
Products sold under brands including Shraddha, Shree Saras and Gokul were found to be non-compliant with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and associated regulations.
