KL Rahul appears set to continue with Delhi Capitals for the IPL 2027 season, putting an end to speculation that he could leave the franchise following Rishabh Pant’s return to Delhi. Rahul’s future became a talking point after Pant made a high-profile return to Delhi Capitals from Lucknow Super Giants. With DC bringing back their former captain and marquee wicketkeeper, questions were raised over whether there was still room for Rahul in the franchise’s plans.
Those doubts led to Rahul being linked with a move to several teams, with Kolkata Knight Riders emerging as one of the strongest candidates. KKR are looking for a proven batter and a potential leadership option following Ajinkya Rahane’s departure, making Rahul an obvious name for them to consider. However, the speculation appears to have been settled well before the IPL 2027 mini-auction.
Delhi Capitals confirmed Rahul’s continuation with the franchise, before co-owner Parth Jindal reinforced the message with a post on X. Jindal described Rahul as a key part of DC’s plans and indicated that the franchise still has unfinished business with the India star. “KL IS KLUTCH FOR @DelhiCapitals – one of the nicest guys i know and one who puts the team before himself always. We have unfinished business and will work hard together to make Delhi proud @IPL,” Jindal wrote.
Rahul responded to Jindal’s post, thanking the DC co-owner and making it clear that he is looking forward to another season with the franchise.
“Thank you, can’t wait for the coming season,” Rahul wrote.
RAHUL AN IMPORTANT COG IN DC’S WHEEL
Rahul has become an important cog in Delhi Capitals’ wheel since joining the franchise. In his first two seasons, he has crossed the 1,000-run mark and emerged as one of their most consistent performers with the bat.
His retention alongside Pant gives DC a strong Indian batting core and, more importantly, greater flexibility in how they use both players.
With Pant back as the primary wicketkeeping option, Rahul can focus solely on his batting. That could allow him to settle into a specialist role at the top of the order and take greater responsibility for setting up DC’s innings.
The possibility of Rahul and Pant opening together also gives the Capitals an experienced combination to build around. Both have played extensively for India and bring considerable experience to a batting line-up that has lacked consistency in recent seasons.
For a franchise that has struggled to make the playoffs, retaining Rahul could prove to be an important decision. Pant may have returned to Delhi as the headline addition, but Rahul remains a key piece of the Capitals’ puzzle.
