New Delhi: Chinese President Xi Jinping Sunday proposed a five-point action plan, including an “open source and inclusive AI” initiative, along with digital industry and trade and investment facilitation as he urged Brics members to cooperate for a stable supply chain and a large integrated market.Also, urging Brics to rally the Global South and act as an active, stabilising and positive force amid changes not witnessed in a century, he said a world without rules is like a crossroads without traffic lights, where chaos and disorder are all but guaranteed.“President Xi stressed that Global South countries should jointly defend the rule of law in international affairs, safeguard the basic norms of international relations, including sovereign equality, noninterference in internal affairs and the peaceful settlement of disputes, and ensure that international law and international rules are applied to all, free from double standards,” said a statement issued by Chinese foreign ministry after his address at the second session of the Brics conference.

Global South countries should hold high the banner of multilateralism, uphold the authority and role of the UN, support multilateral institutions in advancing reform and increasing efficiency, and see to it that reform of WTO proceeds in the right direction. The international financial architecture must be reformed and improved to increase the representation and voice of developing countries,” it said.Citing the current volatility in a multipolar world, Xi said, “To bring stability to the world and make it a better place, Brics countries must seize the historical initiative, rally the Global South, be an active, stabilising and positive force in international affairs, and advance the well-being of all humanity.” He then went on to elaborate on his economic agenda, arguing cooperation among members of the 11-nation bloc must be strengthened.As part of the AI initiative, Xi suggested China establish a Brics AI open source community, support cooperation in developing and applying large language models and build an open ecosystem.

He also said China will push for establishing a Brics digital ecosystem cloud platform, hold skills training, technological exchange and industrial alignment as part of plan on digital economy.“China proposes to establish a Brics special economic zone partnership, under which countries can set up an intelligent portal, coordinate policies, and build a new frontier for open development. In an effort to cultivate new drivers of economic and trade cooperation, China will hold the Brics Forum on Trade in Services next year,” he said on the trade and investment facilitation initiative.Besides, Xi offered his country’s assistance in building smart factories and developing standards and norms, with China looking to set up an engineer cultivation alliance for joint development of engineers and mutual recognition of competency standards.“China will launch a Brics youth exchange programme for scientific and technological innovation, so as to cultivate more high-calibre talent,” he was quoted as saying in the statement.
