The singing reality show Indian Idol has introduced several talented voices to the audience over the years. Some of those contestants went on to leave a lasting impression; one such singer was the winner of the show’s second season, Sandeep Acharya.

The artist competed and won against Neha Kakkar during the season. However, his journey was cut short in 2013 when he died at the young age of 29, leaving behind a 20-day-old daughter.

Early Life

Born in Bikaner in 1984, Sandeep developed a love for music at an early age. He began participating in singing competitions during his school years and went on to perform on several major stages. His big breakthrough came with Indian Idol 2, where his melodious voice quickly struck a chord with viewers. His popularity extended beyond his singing. Audiences were also drawn to his charming personality, striking looks and warm smile.

Breakthrough

Sandeep’s voice created such a strong impression that many listeners began comparing his potential with that of celebrated singer Sonu Nigam. His journey on the reality show eventually came to a happy end as he emerged as the winner at the age of 22. He took home the prize money and a car, besides securing a Rs 1 crore contract with Sony.

Life After Indian Idol

After winning Indian Idol 2, Sandeep Acharya went on to perform at various shows and concerts across the country. His career gained momentum, and he seemed to have achieved many of the dreams he had worked towards.

When Sandeep turned 28, his mother felt it was the right time for him to settle down. He married Namrata, and the couple soon began preparing to welcome their first child.

Health Issues

During his wife’s pregnancy, Sandeep’s health started to deteriorate. As per a report in Hindustan, the singer was suffering from a liver-related illness. Later, reports claimed that he had developed jaundice. He underwent treatment, and doctors remained hopeful about his recovery.

Sandeep responded well to treatment and was eventually discharged. He resumed his routine and even attended a relative’s wedding.

Sudden Death

Sandeep’s health suddenly worsened while he was at the wedding. His condition became serious enough for the family to rush him to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram for further treatment.

Even at the hospital, doctors reportedly assured the family that Sandeep would recover, but the situation soon took a tragic turn. The doctors informed his family that several of his vital organs had stopped functioning. The singer died on December 15, 2013.

The tragedy was made even more heartbreaking by the timing. Just 20 days earlier, Sandeep and Namrata had welcomed their daughter. He left behind his wife, their newborn baby girl and the rest of his family.
