Time flies, doesn’t it? Back in 2024, Bangladesh stunned the cricketing world by winning a Test series in Pakistan. Before that tour, Bangladesh had never beaten Pakistan in Test cricket, but they defied the odds and rewrote history with a landmark triumph. Nearly two years later, the two teams are set to face off again, this time in Bangladesh for a two-match Test series.

The series holds significant importance for both sides. Pakistan currently sit fifth in the World Test Championship standings and will be eager to strengthen their push up the table. Bangladesh, meanwhile, are placed eighth and will look to make the most of home conditions to revive their campaign.

The hosts will take confidence from their recent performances at home, especially on spin-friendly surfaces that have often troubled visiting teams. Pakistan, on the other hand, arrive with a refreshed squad and a revamped support staff as they look to build greater consistency in red-ball cricket.

BANGLADESH BANK ON YOUTH

Najmul Hossain Shanto will continue to lead Bangladesh in the Test series, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz serving as vice-captain. Bangladesh have added fresh faces to the squad, handing maiden Test call-ups to Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Amite Hasan after impressive domestic performances. Tanzid has already established himself in white-ball cricket and now gets the opportunity to prove himself in the longest format.

The return of fast bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam adds considerable strength to Bangladesh’s pace attack, while spinner Nayeem Hasan also returns to the Test setup. Bangladesh will once again rely heavily on experienced campaigners like Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz to guide the younger players in pressure situations.

PAKISTAN RING IN CHANGES

Shan Masood will captain Pakistan in what promises to be a crucial away assignment. Pakistan selectors have opted for a bold approach by naming four uncapped players in the squad: Abdullah Fazal, Amad Butt, Azan Awais and Muhammad Ghazi Ghori. The quartet earned promotions after strong domestic performances and are expected to inject fresh energy into the side.

Pakistan have also revamped their coaching setup, with former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed appointed as head coach for the tour. Former Test cricketers Asad Shafiq and Umar Gul have joined the support staff as batting and bowling coaches respectively.

Despite the inclusion of new faces, Pakistan still possess plenty of experience with players like Shaheen Shah Afridi expected to spearhead the bowling attack. The conditions in Bangladesh, however, are likely to test Pakistan’s batting unit against quality spin and reverse swing. With both teams eager to secure valuable WTC points, an intense and closely fought Test series could be on the cards.
