Former India batter S. Badrinath has thrown down the gauntlet to Punjab Kings pacer Arshdeep Singh ahead of their crucial IPL clash against Mumbai Indians, calling it the ideal moment for the left-arm quick to rediscover his best form.

With the playoff race tightening, Badrinath underlined Arshdeep’s importance to Punjab’s campaign, insisting that the pacer’s rhythm could make a decisive difference against an MI side he believes has lost momentum.

Speaking on Star Sports, Badrinath was unequivocal in his stance on the increasingly common discussion around player workload and fatigue, arguing that elite-level professionals must be prepared to perform at full capacity whenever they step onto the field.

“His form is very important for PBKS’ chances. I don’t believe in the whole fatigue concept. If you are fatigued, then don’t play. As a professional, when you turn up on the field, you have to give 100%. That’s the nature of the highest level of sport,” Badrinath said.

“Take rest if you are fatigued. This is for anybody in the game of cricket, not just Arshdeep.”

Badrinath’s comments come at a significant juncture for Arshdeep, whose season has been a mixed bag. The India pacer has shown flashes of his quality but has struggled for consistency, particularly when conditions have not offered movement with the new ball.

The former batter pointed to Arshdeep’s style as a rhythm-dependent bowler, noting that his effectiveness rises sharply when he is able to generate swing and control both angles.

“Arshdeep has been hot and cold this season. He is more of a rhythm bowler with the ability to move the ball both ways. When the ball moves, Arshdeep is a different bowler,” Badrinath added.

“But this is a golden opportunity for Arshdeep and PBKS against a down-trending MI side. Plus, Arshdeep has bowled well against them.”

For Punjab Kings, the timing could hardly be more critical. With every game carrying heightened significance in the race for the playoffs, Arshdeep finding rhythm against a heavyweight opponent could provide exactly the boost PBKS need.

Mumbai, meanwhile, remain a dangerous side despite recent inconsistencies, making Badrinath’s framing of the contest as a personal opportunity for Arshdeep all the more compelling. The battle between PBKS’ pace spearhead and MI’s batting unit could well shape the outcome of a fixture with major postseason implications.
