The Sagrada Familia in Barcelona is ready to be completed in 2026, round 144 years after building first began on the Catholic church in 1882.

On 20 March, the Sagrada Familia annual report introduced that the completion of the ultimate six of 18 towers will mark the tip of constructing work on the Unesco World Heritage website.

The Junta Constructora de la Sagrada Familia mentioned: “The start of the ultimate stage of building kicked off with the completion of the towers of the Evangelists (November 2023) and work is presently underway on the Chapel of the Assumption and the tower of Jesus Christ.

“The Chapel of the Assumption is predicted to be completed in 2025 and the tower of Jesus Christ in 2026.”

Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí’s famously unfinished basilica is estimated to have been solely 15 per cent constructed when he died in 1926. The brand new date coincides with the centenary of his loss of life.

Initially, work on the construction was funded completely by donations from repentant sinners. Now, with 4,707,367 million guests in 2023 paying €25–40 (£20–£32) to go to the basilica and participate in mass, building prices are largely coated by tourism.

The Sagrada Familia reported an earnings of €126.9 million (£108.8m) in 2023, of which “52 per cent of funds went to building and 26 per cent to Temple administration”.

Though the brand new completion date is simply two years away, building on the closely disputed stairway to the primary entrance is predicted to proceed till 2034.

Present architectural plans are reconstructions of Gaudi’s originals after arsonists began a fireplace in his workshop, destroying plaster fashions and drawings for the Sagrada, in 1936 throughout the Spanish Civil Battle.

The 172.5m excessive tower of Jesus Christ will make the Sagrada Familia the Spanish metropolis’s tallest constructing.
