They added that the revised policy is expected to introduce fresh incentives for EV buyers and stricter measures to phase out fossil fuel-based vehicles.

Delhi govt has extended its Electric Vehicle (EV) policy by an additional 15 days following its expiry. This extension is supposed to be the final one as authorities have already prepared a new draft policy.

The Delhi EV policy offers a range of incentives, including a 25per cent purchase subsidy (up to Rs 5,500) for e-cycles, Rs 30,000 for e-rickshaws and e-carts, Rs 5,000 per kWh of battery capacity (capped at Rs 30,000) for two-wheelers, and Rs 30,000 for e-light commercial vehicles.

A senior official said that the upcoming policy will prioritise the adoption of electric buses and cars, while discouraging petrol, diesel and CNG vehicles through disincentives.

Officials said the short extension was given to ensure continuity while the new framework is implemented.

They added that the revised policy is expected to introduce fresh incentives for EV buyers and stricter measures to phase out fossil fuel-based vehicles.

Sources said that among other things, Delhi’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2.0, which is likely to be announced next month, would include EV charging points for at least 20per cent of the parking space in all new buildings. For older buildings, 5% of the total parking space will facilitate charging infrastructure for EVs.

Sources said that among the proposals in the draft policy is also that buildings with big parking areas should have to keep certain provisions for EV charging. The old policy expired in August 2023, following which it was extended till 2025.

Sources said that the policy also proposes to mandate all garbage collection vehicles used by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Jal Board (DJB), and other civic agencies to be transitioned to EVs in a phased manner and achieve a 100per cent electric fleet by 2027.
