In the middle of his working life, Mitchell has had many roles – truck driving, silkscreen and printmaking, hand-lettering and poster designer, inventory management clerk of a fragrance counter – and on a regular basis he was taking images. Mitchell’s exhibition A New Refutation of the House Viking 4 Mission, at Impressions Gallery in 1979, established his profession and was the primary color exhibition by a British photographer at a British photographic gallery
