India and South Africa are all set to lock horns in Match No.2 of the Women’s Tri-nation series in Sri Lanka on Tuesday, April 29 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, made a stupendous start to their campaign after beating Chamari Athapaththu’s Sri Lanka by nine wickets on Sunday, April 27. Sneh Rana, who made her ODI comeback after 17 months, picked up three wickets.

Left-arm spinner Sree Charani was impressive after she finished with figures of 8-0-26-2. All-rounder Kashvee Gautam, who also made her India debut, failed to take a wicket, although she was frugal with an economy rate of 3.50.

Chasing 148 in the rain-curtailed 39-over match, Pratika Rawal’s unbeaten 50 off 62 balls helped India romp home with 56 balls to spare. Smriti Mandhana and Harleen Deol also chipped in with useful knocks of 43 and 48 not out respectively.

South Africa, led by Laura Wolvaardt, hasn’t played Women’s ODIs this year after losing their three-match series against England 1-2 in December 2024. They also slumped to a 0-3 whitewash at the hands of India last year in June at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

The Proteas Women will be looking to get their combinations in place before the ODI World Cup to be held in India later in 2025.
