Popular cricket commentator and former England and Welsh cricketer Alan Wilkins is all set to join the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 commentary team after being declared free from throat cancer. The commentary icon, who has been the voice behind several iconic international and IPL clashes, will soon arrive in India to join the ongoing season.
Wilkins took to social media to share that he has received the all-clear on his throat cancer, and expressed his excitement about returning to the IPL. In his post, the 71-year-old said this new chapter has made him feel young all over again and emphasized his message: “Never give up.”
“Knowing that I am heading to India to work on the @IPL after being given the All Clear from throat cancer by @VelindreCS @VelindreTrust @Velindre makes me feel incredibly blessed. And “young” again! Never Give Up.” his update read.
After injury cut short the former Glamorgan and Gloucestershire left-arm pacer’s playing career, Wilkins switched to commentary. His voice has since become synonymous not only with cricket, but also with rugby, tennis, and golf broadcasts.
