One of India’s fastest-ever bowlers, Mayank Yadav, made his return to competitive cricket for the first time since October 2024. Mayank, who plays for the Lucknow Super Giants, returned in the team’s 10th match of the Indian Premier League against Mumbai Indians.
Mayank has been out of action since India’s T20I match vs Bangladesh in October 2024. The fast bowler was training at Board of Control for Cricket in India’s Centre of Excellence, and was expected to return by the second week of April. However, LSG head coach Justin Langer informed earlier in the season that Mayank had stubbed his toe on the bedside, further delaying his comeback.
On Sunday, April 27, LSG captain Rishabh Pant informed that Mayank has been slotted in the first XI of the team, and that the visiting side was going to bowl first at the Wankhede Stadium.
“We are bowling first. In a day game you want to utilise the surface. We are in a good space and personally Its easier to put the team ahead, makes it easier. Eventually, you want to play good cricket and take everyday as your first day. One change. Shardul is out and Mayank Yadav is in,” Rishabh Pant said at the toss.
