India and Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Rohit Sharma is just 79 runs away from joining Virat Kohli in an elite list for batters in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Rohit has found his form back after a poor start in the ongoing IPL 2025 as he scored 82 runs from six matches.
However, the MI opener found his feet against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with his innings of 76* (45) and helped Mumbai register a nine-wicket win. Since then, Rohit has scored three half centuries in his last four innings and has made great turnaround in his form.
His rich form has brought Rohit on the verge of another milestone as he’s just 79 runs away from completing 7000 runs in his IPL career and becoming just the second player to achieve the feat. The 38-year-old will become just the second batter after Virat Kohli to achieve the landmark in IPL history. Rohit is the second-highest run scorer in IPL with 6921 runs from 262 innings at an average of 29.83 and a strike rate of 132 with two hundreds and 46 fifties.
Rohit is also just three sixes away from completing 300 sixes in IPL history and becoming the first Indian to achieve the landmark. He’s only behind Chris Gayle in the list, who comfortably sits on the top spot with 357 maximums to his name from 141 innings. Rohit has smacked 297 sixes from 262 innings out of which 17 have come in the ongoing season.
The veteran opener has scored 293 runs from ten innings so far at an average of 32.55 and a strike rate of 155.02 with three fifties to his name. His best innings of the season came against CSK, which also helped him win the Player of the Match award.
The right-handed batter will be eager to continue his form as Mumbai Indians take on Gujarat Titans (GT) in their next fixture. The Hardik Pandya-led side will look to extend their winning streak to seven matches in the upcoming game and climb to the top of the points table.
