There were contrasting emotions at the MA Chidambaram Stadium when MS Dhoni was dismissed cheaply during Chennai Super Kings’ IPL 2025 match against SunRisers Hyderabad. While the home crowd was left silenced, a small section of SunRisers supporters erupted in celebration. SRH owner Kavya Maran was seen cheering with delight after Harshal Patel claimed the prized wicket on Friday, April 25.

Kavya Maran experienced a roller-coaster of emotions in her hometown as she rooted for the visiting team. Earlier, in the seventh over of CSK’s innings, she appeared visibly frustrated when Harshal Patel dropped a catch offered by Ravindra Jadeja. Television visuals captured her visibly annoyed reaction, clearly unimpressed with the sloppy effort on the field. | CSK vs SRH – Coverage |

However, her mood lifted dramatically when MS Dhoni was dismissed for just six off ten balls in the 17th over. Kavya was seen leaping in joy from the stands, in stark contrast to the deflated Chennai faithful. It was only the third time in nine innings this season that Dhoni had been dismissed for a single-digit score.

Notably, Kollywood star Ajith Kumar was in attendance at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, accompanied by his family, to watch the home team in action. Despite the star-studded presence in the stands, CSK fans were given little to cheer about in the first innings.

Only young Ayush Mhatre and debutant Dewald Brevis’s explosive cameos brought some energy to the crowd, alongside fleeting glimpses of Ajith Kumar on the big screen.

Overall, it was a disappointing outing for the Super Kings as they were bowled out for just 154 in 19.5 overs. Dhoni had walked out to bat as early as the 14th over with CSK reeling at 118 for 6, and his dismissal further dashed hopes of a strong finish.

Deepak Hooda fought valiantly with the lower order but struggled to find timing on a sluggish Chepauk pitch.

CSK have yet to breach the 160-run mark at home in IPL 2025, a reflection of their underwhelming record at the MA Chidambaram Stadium – three losses in their first four home games.

On Friday, 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre gave the Super Kings a bright start with a brisk 30 off 19 balls, but the side lost three wickets during the powerplay. Ravindra Jadeja (21 off 17) and Shivam Dube (12 off 9) failed to build momentum through the middle overs.

Dewald Brevis provided a breath of fresh air with his fearless hitting, clearing the ropes with ease. However, his promising knock (42 off 25 balls) was cut short by a sensational catch from Kamindu Mendis.
