Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 37 runs in the 54th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on May 4 (Sunday) at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala. Chasing 237 in 20 overs, LSG could only manage 199-7 in 20 overs.
Punjab Kings posted a commanding 236/6 in the first innings, thanks to a blazing start and impactful contributions throughout the batting order. After losing Priyansh Arya early in the opening over, Josh Inglis walked in at No. 3 and immediately shifted the momentum with three consecutive sixes off Mayank Yadav, setting the tone for PBKS’ innings.

Though Inglis departed soon after, the duo of Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh kept the scoreboard ticking. Prabhsimran was dropped on 21 by Nicholas Pooran, a costly miss that came back to haunt LSG as the opener capitalised and kept punishing the bowlers. Shreyas, who had been consistent this season, was finally dismissed by spin for the first time in the tournament.
The middle and lower order chipped in effectively as Shashank Singh, Nehal Wadhera and Marcus Stoinis played brisk cameos to further boost Punjab’s total. LSG were visibly below-par in the field, with multiple lapses that allowed PBKS to accelerate with ease.

Chasing a daunting 237, LSG never got going as Arshdeep Singh’s fiery opening spell removed the top three early and derailed the chase. With Rishabh Pant and David Miller failing again, the visitors were left reeling. Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad added a fighting 81-run stand, but the required rate kept climbing. Badoni’s valiant effort stood out, yet it wasn’t enough as PBKS wrapped up a commanding 37 run win to claim two vital points and climb to second on the table.
