Rajasthan Royals (RR) fast bowling coach Shane Bond said that the team rues not being able to seize key moments in their Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) campaign. Rajasthan are tottering at the ninth spot on the points table with two wins from nine matches, having four points to their name. The Sanju Samson-led side has suffered massively due to the injury to their captain, who had to sit out for the first three matches and only play as an impact player.
Furthermore, his injury was exacerbated against Delhi Capitals (DC), forcing him to miss the last two matches. Apart from that, Rajasthan have lost three matches back-to-back from winning positions while chasing. Recalling his team’s close losses, Bond stated that it’s hard to accept losing matches after being in control for 35 overs.
“I suppose the stuff that’s hardest is that like I feel like for us for 35 overs of games we’ve played really well. In fact have been in control in some games, and probably got into positions, where we should have won. So you have to give credit to the opposition. They were good enough in those tight moments, to go over the top of us and win those games. I suppose that’s what hurts is you go now, we’re 2 and 7 or whatever we are 2 and 8 and go ‘Jeez where we could sit on the table?. But there’s nothing we can do about that now,” said Bond in the pre-match press conference.
Furthermore, the former speedster accepted that they’re out of the playoffs race but said that there’s still lot to play for and also mentioned how seizing a few key moments would’ve changed their fortunes.
“So, look, we’re probably out of the tournament in terms of the points table, but that doesn’t mean there’s not a lot to play for. Obviously, as a team, we want to make sure we finish the season strong and continue playing well. But also for individuals, there’s a lot to play for next season, wanting to stay with the franchise, there’s always that up. I think we’ve played pretty good cricket. We just haven’t been quite good enough, so. As I said, if we seized a couple of key moments, it could very well look different on the table. If we continue to play like we have done and be a little bit better in the key moments, then I’m sure we’ll win some games,” he added.
Rajasthan will next take on Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 28 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. The 2008 champions will be eager to end their five-match losing streak and have a strong finish to the season.
