India batter Shreyas Iyer has been named the International Cricket Council (ICC) Player of the Month for March 2025. He edged out New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra and Jacob Duffy to claim the accolade, following a stellar return to the senior national side during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Shreyas led India’s batting charts with 243 runs, playing a pivotal role in the middle order. His contributions were instrumental as India clinched the ICC Champions Trophy title for the first time since 2013 – their first major ODI trophy in 12 years.
He became only the second Indian cricketer to win the men’s Player of the Month award this year, following Shubman Gill’s win in February.
Having been dropped from the BCCI’s list of centrally contracted players last year, Shreyas made a resounding comeback during the ODI series against England. After scoring two half-centuries in three matches, he entered the Champions Trophy brimming with confidence.
In a Group A fixture of the tournament, Iyer scored a crucial 79 off 98 balls – an innings laced with four fours and two sixes – helping India post a competitive total of 250 on a tricky pitch against New Zealand. He then contributed 45 off 62 balls during India’s successful semi-final chase against Australia, before capping off his tournament with a composed 48 off 62 in the final, once again against New Zealand, to seal victory in the summit clash.

Reflecting on his achievements in March, Iyer said: “I’m truly honoured to be named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March. This recognition is incredibly special, especially in a month when we lifted the ICC Champions Trophy – a moment I’ll cherish forever.

Following his Champions Trophy heroics, Shreyas Iyer appears to have firmly re-established himself in India’s ODI set-up.
Currently captaining the Punjab Kings, Iyer is also pushing for a recall to the T20I squad. He has started the IPL 2025 season in sensational form, amassing 250 runs in five matches. He has already notched up three fifties and boasts a strike rate of over 200, leading his franchise from the front.
The star batter is also expected to be reinstated in the BCCI’s pool of centrally contracted players. Demonstrating his commitment to domestic cricket, he represented Mumbai across the 2024-25 season in the Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, and Vijay Hazare Trophy.
