The International Cricket Council (ICC) on April 13 confirmed that former India captain Sourav Ganguly will continue as the chair of its Men’s Cricket Committee. Ganguly will lead a six-member panel focused on enhancing the quality and future of the sport across the globe.
Ganguly took over the role in 2021, succeeding his former teammate Anil Kumble, who stepped down after completing the maximum three terms of three years each as committee chair.
His most recent assignment came as the Director of Cricket for the Delhi Capitals Women’s team in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), which reached the final of the 2025 edition.
The committee will also see the return of former India cricketer VVS Laxman, who has been reappointed along with Ganguly. A somewhat surprising addition to the list is current South African ODI and Test captain Temba Bavuma. He joins Hamid Hassan, Desmond Haynes, and Jonathan Trott on the panel.

The Men’s Cricket Committee plays a key role in steering the direction of the sport. It advises the ICC Board on cricket-related matters such as playing conditions, rule changes, and the long-term development of the game. The panel also supervises the implementation of modern technology, including the Decision Review System (DRS), and oversees concerns like illegal bowling actions.
These appointments were made following recommendations from the ICC’s Chief Executives Committee, which includes BCCI secretary and ICC chairman Jay Shah. The committee was formed to drive global growth and maintain continuity at a time when cricket is navigating both challenges and opportunities.
In addition to these appointments, the ICC also announced a support initiative for displaced Afghan women cricketers, promising assistance in every possible area to support their development and well-being.
With Ganguly at the helm, the committee is expected to continue shaping the sport with a progressive mindset. The presence of Laxman and active players like Bavuma will only strengthen that mission.
