Punjab Kings (PBKS) secured a dominant eight-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash on April 1 (Wednesday), with captain Shreyas Iyer leading the charge with a second consecutive half-century. For the Rishabh Pant-led LSG, it came as their second loss in three matches so far in the tournament. After the win, PBKS celebrated Iyer’s performance on social media while also taking a dig at LSG skipper Rishabh Pant.
PBKS shared a cheeky post on X (formerly Twitter) taking a jibe at Pant for something he had said after the 2025 mega auctions. Notably, after being bought for ₹27 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction, Pant had expressed relief at not being picked by Punjab Kings. With PBKS entering the auction with the largest purse, many expected them to bid for Pant. However, they chose to go for Shreyas Iyer instead, securing him for ₹26.75 crore.

“Mera ek hi tension tha, wo tha Punjab (I had only one tension, which was getting picked by Punjab),” Rishabh Pant had told JioStar after being revealed as LSG’s captain.
After PBKS’ dominant victory over LSG in Lucknow, the official Punjab Kings X handle shared Rishabh Pant’s own words and took a subtle jab at him, captioning it, “Tension toh auction mein hi khatam ho gayi thi!”

All-Round PBKS Thrash LSG By 8 Wickets
Opting to bowl first, PBKS gained early control, reducing LSG to 119/5 in 15.5 overs. Nicholas Pooran (44 off 30) looked promising but failed to convert his start into a big innings, while Ayush Badoni contributed with a steady 41 off 33. A late surge from Abdul Samad (27 off 12), with some innovative strokes, helped LSG reach 171/7 at the Ekana Stadium.
In reply, Prabhsimran Singh led the PBKS chase with a blistering 69 off 34 balls, supported well by Shreyas Iyer’s unbeaten 52 off 30. Despite Digvesh Rathi taking two wickets for LSG, PBKS maintained their dominance, wrapping up the chase with an eight-wicket victory and 22 balls to spare.
