Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) recent clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Wednesday (April 16) went down to the wire, ending in a Super Over. While Rajasthan Royals suffered a narrow defeat, an even bigger concern emerged during their innings – an injury to captain Sanju Samson.
How Sanju sustained injury?
In the sixth over of the Royals’ innings, Samson struck a four and a six off the first two balls from spinner Vipraaj Nigam. However, on the third delivery, while attempting another attacking shot, he appeared to suffer a strain in his left rib. The 30-year-old was seen in discomfort and immediately began stretching.
The physio was called in, and Samson took pain medication. He briefly resumed batting but soon retired hurt and walked off the field, raising concerns about a potential injury layoff.
Latest on Sanju’s Fitness
After the match, Samson gave a short update, telling JioHotstar: “It looks better than before. I was just not in a condition to come back and bat. We will do a test tomorrow and see how my injury is.”
His response suggests the situation is being monitored, but whether he will be fit for RR’s next match remains uncertain. RR’s next match in IPL 2025 will be against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Saturday (April 19) at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.
RR’s Struggles Continue
The loss to Delhi has further complicated Rajasthan’s IPL 2025 campaign. With just two wins in seven matches, they currently sit eighth on the points table. Captain Sanju Samson’s availability in upcoming fixtures could be key as the team looks to revive its playoff hopes.
Rajasthan Royals have seven league-stage matches remaining before the IPL 2025 playoffs. With only 4 points from 2 wins in 7 games so far, the road ahead looks challenging.
Based on past IPL trends, teams usually need a minimum of 16 points to qualify for the playoffs. This means RR must win at least six of their remaining matches to keep their playoff hopes alive.
