Punjab Kings spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has advised young spinners to be mentally tough as they start their journey in the Indian Premier League. Several rookie stars have shot to the limelight in the ongoing edition of the tournament. Digvesh Rathi, Vignesh Puthur, and Vipraj Nigam have done well in the early weeks of the tournament.
Speaking on JioHotstar Press Room with Punjab Kings, Chahal advised the young spinners to be mentally tough. He said that in the IPL, bowlers could get hit for 40 runs in their first two overs and then bowl a game-changing spell in their 3rd. Chahal stated that self-belief was the most important thing for a spinner.
“I would advise them to enjoy the game. Follow what you have done so far. Self-belief is very important. Don’t bowl to the name. Learn to handle pressure, make yourself mentally tough. T20 is the kind of game where you will be hit for 40 runs in 2 overs, but in the next over, you will be able to bowl a match-winning over, but I would say that self-belief is most important,” Yuzvendra Chahal replied to India Today’s query.

He also backed the Punjab Kings to finish in the top 2 in the Indian Premier League this season. Punjab have assembled a new side under the coaching of Ricky Ponting. Their new aggressive method with bat and ball has paid off in the initial weeks of the IPL. At the moment, PBKS stand 4th in the points table with 2 wins from 3 games.
“Definitely, we are coming in the top 2. If you see our bowling, our batting. We bat till 9, Marco Jansen bats at 9, so we are quite a balanced side. You get a vibe that this team might be the champion. We are just enjoying now,” Chahal said.
Punjab are taking on Chennai Super Kings in their next match. They lost their last game against Rajasthan Royals at Mullanpur – their home ground. Punjab would be wary of CSK’s spin threat in their home game on Tuesday, April 8.
