Arjun Tendulkar impressed on his debut for Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday, May 23. Playing against Punjab Kings, Arjun bowled his full quota of four overs and picked up the wicket of Prabhsimran Singh with a searing yorker at the Ekana Stadium.
Arjun’s performance prompted father Sachin Tendulkar to post a rare message about his son on X, where he praised Arjun for his hard work and love for the game. Sachin took to social media immediately after the conclusion of the match and shared an emotional note.
Sachin, who rarely comments publicly on his son’s cricketing journey, praised Arjun for remaining patient and continuing to work hard behind the scenes despite having to wait until the final league-stage game of the season for an opportunity.
“Well done, Arjun. Proud of the way you’ve carried yourself through this season, always believing in your ability, staying patient, working hard quietly, and remaining positive despite having to wait for your opportunity till the very last match. Cricket tests patience as much as skill, and you handled both beautifully today. Keep your feet on the ground, and continue being in love with the game like you always have. Love you always,” Sachin wrote on X.
LSG vs PBKS, IPL 2026: HIGHLIGHTS | SCORECARD
Sachin’s last public post on his son’s cricketing journey came back in 2023, when he reacted to Arjun’s debut for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Saturday’s message perhaps resonated deeply with cricket fans as well, many of whom had been eager to finally watch Arjun bowl regularly at the IPL level.
LSG vs PBKS: HOW DID ARJUN TENDULKAR BOWL?
Arjun Tendulkar was brought into the attack immediately after the powerplay by Rishabh Pant. The left-arm pacer began confidently, bowling a series of well-directed bouncers at Prabhsimran Singh that caught the batter slightly off guard.
Beaten by the trajectory and extra bounce, Prabhsimran edged one down the leg side towards Pant. However, the LSG captain was unable to hold on to the chance, denying Arjun what could have been an early breakthrough on debut.
Despite the missed opportunity, Arjun did not lose his composure. He returned to his mark and completed a tidy first over, conceding just four runs without giving away a single boundary.
Arjun’s second over, however, proved slightly more expensive. Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran used their feet cleverly against the youngster, picking up two boundaries and a six to collect 15 runs from the over.
Recognising that the batters were charging at him, Arjun adjusted his angles smartly in his third over, which was the 15th of the innings. By then, Shreyas had already begun dominating the bowling attack on his way towards a sensational century, and the youngster found it difficult to contain the Punjab skipper.
But Arjun showed character under pressure.
Braving the assault, the left-arm pacer fired in a searing yorker that trapped Prabhsimran plumb in front of the stumps, dismissing the opener for 69 runs and handing Arjun his maiden IPL wicket.
Arjun’s final over, the 17th of the innings, was another impressive one. Bowling at the death under pressure, he conceded just five runs and showed admirable control despite Punjab eventually chasing down the target.
RISHABH PANT’S DROP COSTS 49 RUNS
Rishabh Pant’s crucial drop of Prabhsimran Singh costed the team 49 runs. If Pant could have held onto Arjun’s sharp bouncer, things might have been different on Saturday.
Arjun showed commendable temperament at the Ekana and walked away with figures of 4-0-36-1, with two sensational overs at the start and at the death. He was Lucknow’s most economical bowler on Saturday.
