Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is only 15, but the Rajasthan Royals sensation is already thinking far beyond the milestones that usually excite young batters. While most cricketers would celebrate reaching a fifty or dream of scoring a century, Vaibhav has his eyes set on something unprecedented: becoming the first batter to score 200 in T20 cricket.
The teenage prodigy made the bold declaration during a conversation with former England captain Kevin Pietersen on his YouTube channel, offering a glimpse into the fearless mindset that has quickly made him one of the most talked-about young talents in Indian cricket.
When Pietersen asked if he enjoyed celebrating half-centuries, Vaibhav’s response was blunt.
“No, not that much,” he said.
The conversation soon shifted to his ambitions, and Vaibhav made it clear that conventional benchmarks do not particularly interest him.
“I want to score 200 in T20s. I want to break his record and score 200,” Vaibhav said, referring to Chris Gayle’s all-time T20 record.
Gayle’s unbeaten 175 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Pune Warriors India in the 2013 IPL remains the highest individual score in the format. More than a decade later, no batter has managed to breach the 200-mark in professional T20 cricket.
For most players, such a target would sound wildly ambitious. For Vaibhav, however, the confidence appears to come naturally.
CONFIDENCE BACKED BY FEARLESS MINDSET
When Pietersen pointed out that a hundred would merely be halfway to his target, Vaibhav appeared completely unfazed.
“If I play all 20 overs in any game, I can break that 175-run record,” he said.
That confidence is rooted in his fearless approach to batting. Vaibhav also revealed that pressure does not creep in even when he is nearing a milestone.
“No, never. I just keep playing my natural game at that point,” he said when asked if he feels the pressure in the nineties.
It is this clarity of thought that has already made him one of the most exciting young batters in Indian cricket. Vaibhav is not interested in slowing down for landmarks or altering his style depending on the match situation. For him, the objective remains simple: stay at the crease and keep scoring.
THE NUMBERS BEHIND THE AMBITION
As bold as his comments may sound, Vaibhav already has the numbers to justify some of that belief.
The youngster has shown a remarkable appetite for big scores. He smashed 175 in the Under-19 World Cup final, setting the record for the highest individual score in the summit clash. He also came agonisingly close to a double hundred in List A cricket, hammering 190 for Bihar in the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Then came perhaps the most astonishing revelation of all.
Asked about the longest innings of his career, Vaibhav recalled a staggering knock that does not feature in official records.
“I played one of our domestic matches for my state, batted through the full 50 overs and scored 335 not out,” he revealed.
For a player still only 15, that is an extraordinary claim and perhaps the clearest indication yet of both his stamina and appetite for marathon innings.
Scoring 200 in T20 cricket remains one of the sport’s final untouched frontiers. It may sound outrageous for a teenager to speak about it so openly.
Then again, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is already making a habit of turning audacious ambitions into reality.
