Mohsin Naqvi set to bring radical changes to PCB amid Pakistan cricket’s struggles

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has intensified efforts to bring more former cricketers into the board’s decision-making structure, a move aimed at strengthening Pakistan cricket through greater reliance on experienced cricketing minds.

Speaking to the media in Lahore, Naqvi revealed plans to expand the PCB’s advisory panel by inducting three to four additional former international players.

The panel currently includes former Pakistan captains Misbah-ul-Haq and Sarfaraz Ahmed, while reports suggest that former skippers Younis Khan and Mohammad Hafeez have also been approached for advisory roles.

Naqvi believes that increasing the number of former players involved in key decisions will lead to better outcomes for Pakistan cricket.

“I am meeting some former players in this regard, as I believe that cricket-related matters should be decided by those with extensive knowledge of the game,” said Naqvi.

He emphasised that he wants the advisory group to have substantial authority over issues concerning national teams, domestic cricket and leadership appointments.

“I want these cricket minds to take calls on cricketing matters pertaining to the national teams, cricket issues, and domestic cricket,” he said.

NAQVI LOOKING FOR BETTER DECISION-MAKING

Naqvi has repeatedly maintained that his primary responsibility is to ensure the financial and administrative stability of the PCB, while cricketing decisions should be entrusted to experts. He indicated that matters such as captaincy appointments and broader cricket policies would increasingly be guided by former players serving on the advisory panel.

“We are in contact with many cricketers. When there are six or seven people instead of three, better decisions will naturally be made,” he stated.

“I can offer suggestions, but there will be occasions when they are not followed. I have to trust them,” he said.

The latest initiative comes as Pakistan cricket continues to seek greater consistency after a period marked by frequent changes in coaching and selection structures. Naqvi has already shown a willingness to involve former players in significant roles, including appointing former captain Waqar Younis as an advisor and consulting a wide range of former internationals on cricket affairs.

By expanding the advisory panel, the PCB chairman hopes to create a more structured and expert-driven system where former players play a central role in shaping the future direction of Pakistan cricket.
