An Indian U19 player has been withdrawn from the upcoming fixtures against Australia U19 after discrepancies were found in his age-related documents, with the BCCI also imposing a two-year ban on him from domestic cricket.
Bengal leg-spinner Rohit Yadav, who had been selected in India’s U19 squads for the upcoming One-Day and Multi-Day fixtures against Australia, has been removed from both squads following scrutiny of his documents. The Junior Cricket Committee has named Saurashtra Cricket Association’s Aryan Savsani as his replacement in the One-Day squad, while Haryana Cricket Association’s Tanmay Baloda has been brought into the Multi-Day squad.
Rohit had been part of India’s U19 side as recently as July, when he toured Sri Lanka. He took six wickets during the tour and was part of the team that won the final Test. He was subsequently picked for India’s home fixtures against Australia U19 in Rajkot and Ahmedabad.
However, discrepancies in his age documents came to light during scrutiny in Sri Lanka. According to the information available, Rohit has three birth certificates carrying different years of birth, with 2007, 2009 and 2010 listed across the documents.
There were also inconsistencies in his Aadhaar records. When Rohit was registered with the Cricket Association of Bengal, his year of birth was recorded as 2007. His Aadhaar records were subsequently updated to show 2006 in 2017 and again in 2020, before being changed to 2009 in 2021.
The Cricket Association of Bengal had previously kept Rohit out of its junior teams because of the discrepancies and subsequently informed the BCCI. The Board has now imposed a two-year ban on the player and communicated the decision to its affiliated state associations.
INDIA ANNOUNCE REPLACEMENTS
Rohit’s withdrawal means India will now have two different players coming into the Australia assignment, depending on the format.
Aryan Savsani has been added to the One-Day squad, which will be led by Lakshya Raichandani, with Yashbardhan Chauhan as vice-captain. The squad also includes sons of two legendary Indian cricketers – Aaryavir Sehwag, and Anvay Dravid.
Tanmay Baloda, meanwhile, replaces Rohit in the Multi-Day squad, which will be captained by Yashbardhan Chauhan.
CAB, BCCI CRACK DOWN ON AGE FRAUD
The action against Rohit comes amid a wider crackdown by the CAB on age and documentation-related discrepancies among junior cricketers.
The association has identified 62 players who have been declared ineligible for registration or transfer for any tournament during the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons. The list includes former India U19 World Cup winner Ravi Kumar and left-arm spin all-rounder Vishal Bhatti, who has played three first-class and two List A matches.
Ravi, a member of India’s 2022 U19 World Cup-winning team, has been flagged for a 45-month discrepancy in his age records. The CAB has also found significant differences in the documentation of several other age-group players, with some records showing gaps of multiple years.
The latest action is part of the CAB’s broader scrutiny of player documentation and age records, as the association steps up checks around eligibility in junior cricket.
