Urvil Patel lit up Chepauk on May 10 night with one of the wildest knocks the Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen, smashing a 13-ball fifty for Chennai Super Kings against Lucknow Super Giants. The innings helped him equal Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record for the fastest half-century in IPL history.
And he did it in a chase of 204.

After Sanju Samson fell for a quick 28 off 14 balls, there was a small opening for LSG to slow the game down. Urvil made sure that never happened. The youngster walked in and started taking bowlers apart straight away, turning the chase into complete chaos at Chepauk.
URVIL PATEL HITS FIVE SIXES IN A ROW
The madness properly began against Avesh Khan.
Urvil smashed the final three balls of the fifth over for three straight sixes and suddenly the pressure completely shifted back on LSG. But the bigger moment came right after that.
Instead of taking strike himself in the next over, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad trusted Urvil to continue the assault and handed him strike straightaway against Digvesh Rathi.
The result? Two more sixes immediately.
Five sixes in a row across two overs.
For a second, it genuinely looked like Urvil might recreate the kind of six-hitting carnage Riyan Parag produced in IPL 2025 when he smashed six consecutive sixes against KKR.
Urvil narrowly missed out after the next ball went for four instead, but then casually launched another 98-metre six anyway.
By then, Chepauk had completely lost its mind.
He eventually brought up his fifty in the next over against Mohammed Shami, reaching the landmark in just 13 balls and matching Jaiswal’s all-time IPL record.
HOW URVIL PATEL CELEBRATED HIS IPL RECORD
The celebration after the fifty made the moment even better.
As the crowd roared inside Chepauk, Urvil reached into his pocket and pulled out a handwritten note that read: “This is for you papa.”
He then held it up towards the stands before soaking in the applause.
Before Urvil’s blitz, LSG had looked well in control after crossing 200 thanks largely to Josh Inglis’ innings and some late hitting from Shahbaz Ahmed.
CSK’s record in big chases also did not exactly help confidence. Chennai had not successfully chased down a 180-plus target in the IPL since 2018.
But Urvil’s innings completely changed the mood of the game within a handful of overs.
Urvil’s fiery knock finally came to an end in the 10th over when Shahbaz Ahmed dismissed him for 62, bringing an end to one of the most explosive innings of IPL 2026 so far.
That knock from the 27-year-old consisted of nine fours and seven sixes.

Born in Mehsana, Gujarat, on October 17, 1998, Urvil Patel has quietly built a reputation as one of the most explosive hitters in India’s domestic circuit.
The Gujarat batter is known for going hard from ball one, and a lot of that journey began at home. His father, Mukesh Patel, a former sprinter and physical training teacher, pushed him towards sport early, while his parents regularly travelled long distances to Ahmedabad so Urvil could train better.
