Punjab Kings pacer Arshdeep Singh has once again come under fire on social media after a viral video involving young teammate Priyansh Arya sparked fresh controversy during the ongoing Indian Premier League season.
A video from inside the Punjab Kings team bus, reportedly uploaded on Arshdeep Singh’s Snapchat story, has surfaced online and triggered widespread debate among fans. The clip shows Priyansh Arya sitting alongside teammate Harpreet Brar at the back of the bus while the team appears to be travelling in Lucknow, where Punjab Kings are currently stationed.
Although Arshdeep is not visible on camera, fans identified his voice in the background. In the clip, he can be heard teasing Priyansh Arya over his smile, saying, “What a cutie, man! Show me your smile. Show me your teeth,” before laughing.
The interaction quickly divided opinion online. While several fans brushed it aside as harmless dressing-room banter between teammates, many others criticised the video and questioned whether the youngster appeared uncomfortable during the exchange.
Priyansh Arya is seen looking away from the camera and continuing a phone call during the interaction, with social media users pointing to his body language while discussing whether the teasing crossed a line.
The latest backlash comes just days after Arshdeep faced criticism over another viral clip involving Tilak Varma. In that video, the Punjab Kings pacer was heard saying “Oye andhere” while addressing Tilak, prompting some fans online to accuse him of making an insensitive remark.
Arshdeep also drew attention after responding sharply to a fan on social media who suggested Punjab Kings should remove “Punjab” from their franchise name. The left-arm pacer replied that he could not take advice from people who still ask their family for money to buy chips and cold drinks.
The controversies have unfolded during a difficult period for Punjab Kings on the field. The franchise has suffered six consecutive defeats, leaving their playoff hopes hanging by a thread. Punjab Kings now need to beat Lucknow Super Giants in their final league match to remain in contention for the playoffs.
Despite the criticism surrounding Arshdeep on social media, Punjab Kings head of sports science Andrew Leipus said the pacer has remained unaffected mentally.
“I don’t follow a lot of social media myself, so I know there has been a bit of chatter behind the scenes of various things going on, vlogging and whatnot. I am not across that,” Leipus told reporters ahead of Punjab Kings’ clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
