Talking at the beginning of three-way talks on the White Home with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, Mr Biden mentioned that “any assault on Philippine plane, vessels or armed forces within the South China Sea would invoke our mutual defence treaty”.
