The poll campaign in Andhra Pradesh took a bizarre turn when videos showcasing the distribution of condoms featuring party names and symbols surfaced online.

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Andhra Pradesh have attacked each other for condom distribution.

A viral video circulating on social media shows party workers distributing condom packs featuring symbols of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy’s ruling party and Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP to voters.

Calling it a “publicity stunt,” YSR Congress Party questioned the Telugu Desam Party’s strategy behind the campaign of distributing condoms.

In a post on X, Jagan Reddy’s party raised questions about whether the TDP is planning to distribute Viagra.

In a swift response, former Andhra CM Naidu’s party fired back, sharing a condom pack featuring the YSRCP logo and playfully asking if this was the much-touted ‘level of preparedness’.

Andhra Pradesh is poised to witness simultaneous elections to the Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha in a few months time. In 2019, Jagan Reddy-led YSRCP registered a landslide victory in the state Assembly elections, decimating the TDP to just 23 seats.

The YSRCP replicated the same performance in Lok Sabha elections which were held simultaneously with the assembly polls. The YSRCP had bagged 22 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats while the TDP won 3.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Mukesh Kumar Meena said the Election Commission is working towards ensuring more than 83 per cent polling in the forthcoming general elections in Andhra Pradesh. As part of this goal, the CEO noted that several programmes are being undertaken to educate voters on the importance of exercising their franchise.
