Congress nominee for Puri meeting seat Uma Ballav Rath was severely injured on Sunday after he was assaulted by unknown miscreants, police mentioned. Rath, who sustained head and physique accidents, filed a grievance at Kumbharpada police station.
He claimed that whereas canvassing close to the bus stand, he was instantly attacked by unknown individuals with bricks and glass bottles. Native residents intervened and saved him, prompting a police response led by the Metropolis DSP.
“Some unknown miscreants assaulted me whereas I used to be canvassing close to the bus stand. Out of the blue, some individuals got here and attacked me,” Rath, a former MLA, instructed reporters.
It’s suspected that Rath candidature because the Congress nominee might have been a cause for the assault. Although the social gathering had initially introduced Sujit Mohapatra as its candidate for the seat, it later dropped him and nominated Rath. Nevertheless, Rath mentioned he wouldn’t blame anybody. “Let the police examine into the matter,” he mentioned.
In the meantime, offended over the change of candidate by the Congress management, supporters of Mohapatra ransacked the social gathering’s district workplace within the city, police mentioned. Mohapatra alleged that he was dropped by the social gathering after he filed nomination papers.
