Heavy rainfall lashed Delhi-NCR on Monday morning, flooding roads and affecting traffic across several parts of the region, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert for the city and orange alerts for some nearby areas. The IMD has forecasted heavy to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and winds with speeds up to 40 kilometres per hour in the next few hours.
Visuals shared by ANI from Delhi’s Durga Vihar locality showed a stretch of road waterlogged, with bikes and cars wading through waterlogged street. Meanwhile, commuters were seen walking through the waterlogged street as well.

Another footage shared by ANI from Barakhamba Road showed vehicles passing during heavy rains and some cars parked at the sideaways.

According to the IMD, isolated places in South East Delhi, East Delhi, Shahdara, Central Delhi, North East Delhi, South Delhi, New Delhi, South West Delhi, West Delhi, North West Delhi and North Delhi are likely to experience heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and winds blowing at speeds of 30-40 kmph.
Between 8.30 am and 11.30 am, Chhatarpur recorded the highest rainfall in Delhi at 28 mm, followed by Lodi Road at 24.6 mm and Pitampura at 18.5 mm, according to the IMD. The Ridge recorded 5 mm of rainfall, Mayur Vihar 1.5 mm, Safdarjung 1 mm and Ayanagar 0.1 mm during the period.
The minimum temperature at Safdarjung settled at 27.8 degrees Celsius, 1.4 notches above normal, the report further shared. The Ridge recorded the lowest minimum temparature at 24 degrees Celsius.
The capital’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 97 in Ashok Vihar, 100 in Aya Nagar, 127 in Bawana, 102 in the Cantonment area, 109 in Chandni Chowk, 83 at the Commonwealth Sports Complex, 101 on Mathura Road and 88 at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
