Kejriwal approves long-awaited MoU for Delhi Metro Phase IV maintenance, expediting crucial corridor construction, overcoming hurdles.

Delhi’s Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, has finally given the go-ahead for a crucial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Delhi government, DMRC, and the central government.

This agreement aims to facilitate the maintenance of three corridors under Delhi Metro Phase IV.

Originally approved in 2019, the MoU was slated for signing in the same year but faced delays. Now, officials confirm that the MoU is set to be inked in the upcoming week, as reported by Indian Express.

The corridors in focus cover Janakpuri West to Ramakrishna Ashram, Delhi Aerocity to Tughlakabad station, and Majlis Park to Maujpur. Chief Minister Kejriwal’s approval marks a crucial step forward, signaling an acceleration in the construction process for these corridors.

In a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), it was announced, “CM Arvind Kejriwal has greenlit the signing of the MoU involving the Delhi Government, DMRC, and the Central Government. These corridors span from Janakpuri West to Ramakrishna Ashram, Delhi Aerocity to Tughlakabad station, and Majlis Park to Maujpur corridor. This step will expedite the construction progress of these crucial metro routes.”

“The signing of this MoU will eliminate all hurdles obstructing the construction work of these three corridors,” added the CMO.

The construction work for these corridors is already in progress, with a total length of 65.20 km and plans for 45 metro stations.

Despite the ongoing construction, a senior government official highlighted that the signing of the MoU is a routine process that had faced unnecessary delays. While funds were being released as per the DMRC’s requests, hurdles created by the Delhi government resulted in the matter reaching the Supreme Court. Eventually, the Government of India approved the corridors with some modifications, but the MoU remained unsigned until now.
