An FIR has been registered against cricketer and Punjab Kings player Shashank Singh for allegedly assaulting and verbally abusing Vipendra Singh, a member of the cooking staff. A case has been filed against three individuals on charges including assault.
Punjab Kings all-rounder Shashank Singh and his father, Shailesh Singh, a retired Special Director General of Police, have been named in a criminal case following allegations of assault, verbal abuse, and wrongful confinement by their domestic cook.
The First Information Report (FIR) was registered at the Ratibad Police Station in Bhopal on Monday. The case stems from a formal complaint lodged by 31-year-old Vipendra Singh Tomar, a native of the Rewa district, who had recently moved to the state capital to work at the family’s Nilbad bungalow. The family’s driver, identified as Mishra, has also been named as a co-accused in the case, according to The New Indian Express.

According to the police, Tomar was reportedly employed on June 25 on a promised monthly salary of Rs 15,000, which included free food, accommodation, and vague assurances of assistance in securing a future government job. However, the complainant alleged that within days of starting, the domestic environment became intensely hostile, with arguments frequently erupting over the quality of the food he prepared.
When Tomar expressed his desire to resign and return home due to the abusive atmosphere, the situation allegedly escalated. He claimed that his mobile phone was forcibly confiscated to prevent him from contacting anyone, prompting him to lock himself inside a room for personal safety.
The cook further alleged that the father, son, and driver forced open the door, subjected him to physical violence, and subsequently evicted him from the premises. A medical examination later conducted by the local police confirmed visible injury marks on Tomar’s face and body.
The Ratibad Police have registered the FIR under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 296(B) for obscene acts and verbal abuse, Section 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt, and Section 3(5) regarding joint criminal liability. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
While this off-field controversy unfolds, Shashank Singh remains a vital component of the Punjab Kings setup. Known as a hard-hitting finisher, his performances during the recently concluded 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season dipped as the Shreyas Iyer-led side crashed out of the playoffs race after an incredible second-half slowdown.
Across 12 matches in the 2026 season, the right-handed batsman accumulated only 132 runs at a blistering strike rate of 188.57, failing to give the team finishing touches. Shashnk was also untidy on the field, failing to hold onto catches, more often than not.
