The wait is finally over, and the response has been emphatic. Ticket sales for India’s much-awaited football exhibition clash against Brazil began on the official ticketing partner at 4 pm IST on Wednesday, September 2. Within 20 minutes, the majority of the seats, particularly the non-premium categories priced between Rs 1,000 and Rs 5,000, were sold out. The demand was such that users were placed in a virtual queue, much like the experience of trying to get an IPL ticket.
Brazil, five-time world champions and currently ranked fifth in the FIFA rankings, will face India at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on October 3. It will be the first time Brazil’s senior men’s national team plays in India, making the fixture one of the biggest in the history of Indian football. India, ranked 138th, will face the highest-ranked opponent they have played since the FIFA World Ranking system was introduced in 1992.
Premium tickets, priced between Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000, were also in high demand, while the cheapest tickets started at Rs 999, a relatively steep price for an Indian football game. The 85,000-capacity stadium is expected to be packed to the rafters when Kolkata welcomes Brazil.
And for fans wondering whether Brazil will arrive with a weakened squad, there is reason for optimism. An AIFF official has indicated that Brazil are expected to bring their full squad, unless injuries intervene. That means Kolkata could potentially see some of the biggest names in world football, including Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo and Endrick, with Carlo Ancelotti in charge.
The fixture is also part of Brazil’s first FIFA international window after the 2026 World Cup. The Brazilian Football Confederation has said the matches against Australia and India will form part of its preparations and player evaluation ahead of the 2028 Copa America and the 2030 World Cup.
THREE BIG FRIENDLY FIXTURES
India, meanwhile, have not treated the Brazil game as an isolated spectacle.
Head coach Khalid Jamil has named a 26-member squad for a demanding run of three international friendlies against Panama, Brazil and Uruguay. India will begin the sequence against Panama in Bengaluru on September 26 before travelling to Kolkata for the Brazil game on October 3. Three days later, on October 6, the Blue Tigers will face two-time world champions Uruguay at the same Salt Lake Stadium.

The squad includes experienced names such as Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Anirudh Thapa, Sahal Abdul Samad and Manvir Singh, alongside several younger players. Notably, Sandesh Jhingan and Lallianzuala Chhangte have been left out, while four players have been named as reserves.
Jamil’s team will begin its preparatory camp in Bengaluru on September 14. After the Panama match, the squad will travel to Kolkata on September 28, giving the players a short turnaround before two of the biggest fixtures of their careers.
The three-match run is significant because all three opponents featured at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Panama, Brazil and Uruguay will offer India three very different but equally demanding tests, giving Jamil an opportunity to assess his squad against opposition operating at a considerably higher level.
The Brazil game, naturally, will command the biggest attention. Kolkata has long had a deep connection with Brazilian football, and the city’s passionate support for the Selecao has helped make the fixture particularly special.
But for India, the bigger objective goes beyond one evening of glamour.
Playing Brazil and Uruguay in the space of three days, with Panama coming before them, gives the Blue Tigers a rare opportunity to experience three high-quality international tests in one window.
