NEW DELHI: The Indian Coast Guard intercepted an Iranian fishing vessel off the coast of Koyilandy in Kerala on Sunday, six fishermen from Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, have been taken into custody from the boat, as per coastal police.
“The boat went out of gasoline when it reached Koyilandy. All those that have been taken into custody have been fishermen who had gone to Iran from Kanyakumari for fishing round one and half years in the past,” a police officer stated.
Based mostly on preliminary assumption, the police officer stated that the fishermen have been making an attempt to return to their hometown after fleeing from Iran as a consequence of poor working circumstances.
“As per their assertion, they weren’t getting any wage and have been struggling ill-treatment in Iran. They stated they even needed to endure bodily assault from the employer. In order that they escaped in the identical boat that they had been engaged in fishing,” he stated.
The boat is now beneath the custody of the Coast Guard and and the six fishermen have been transported to Kochi for additional investigation, he added.
