The Punjab Police’s purpose-built Kia Carens feature high-intensity strobe lights, public announcement systems, and exterior decals.

The Punjab Police has received 71 Carens MPVs with unique customisations from Kia India.

Displayed as a Purpose-Built Vehicle (PBV) at the recently concluded Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 in Delhi, the Kia Carens will act as an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) to offer citizens prompt assistance.

With the specially designed Carens for Punjab Police, Kia has officially joined the PBV market. The carmaker claims that the vehicle is intended to bridge the gap between the various mobility needs of the nation’s specialised institutions.

The Punjab Police’s customised Kia Carens is powered by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 6-speed manual gearbox. The specially designed vehicle is outfitted with custom high-intensity strobe lights and public announcement systems. The vehicle receives a larger 60 Ah battery to power the additional equipment.

The exterior also includes ‘Dial 112 – Emergency Response Vehicle’ decals. According to Kia, the Carens’ connected features, larger wheelbase, and improved third-row comfort made it the preferred choice of the Punjab Police.

“Purpose-based Vehicles (PBVs) represent the future of mobility as they offer the possibility of extensive customization to meet specific mobility requirements,” Myung-sik Sohn, Chief Sales and Business Officer, Kia India, said while commenting on the delivery as quoted by Times Now. “Kia is proud to team up with the Punjab Police in delivering technologically enhanced Carens as PBVs, tailored to offer the best and safest driving experience, particularly for longer journeys. The spacious interiors and comfortable headrests make it an ideal mobility solution,” Myung-sik Sohn added.

Their goal is to increase the attractiveness of Carens, a family mover, to all institutions searching for a 7-seater mobility solution by forming strategic alliances such as these, the Chief Sales and Business Officer of Kia India claimed.

Additionally, a 60:40 split second row and a 55:50 split third row are available on the Kia Carens. A 12-volt power outlet, five Type-C USB charging ports, and adjustable headrests are included for each of the three rows.

All four wheels of the customised Carens are equipped with disc brakes, and it also has safety features like ABS, TPMS, idle start/stop function, and more—it can even be used as a police car.

At the Auto Expo 2023, the specially designed Kia Carens made its debut as an ambulance and police car. According to the automaker, Kia’s goal of dominating the global PBV market by 2030 is demonstrated by this delivery.
