It’s hard to top the costumes that Rosamund Pike wore as the aristocratic Elspeth Catton in Saltburn. But the actor, who donned an impressive mix of archival designer fashions in the twisty aughties period film, has managed to do just that this awards season. Pike worked with longtime friend and stylist Leith Clark on a red carpet wardrobe. The actor has quickly become a joyous presence on the red carpet, proving that awards show fashion doesnât need to be boring to be serious.
Clark tells Vogue that while working with Pike is âthe most fun,â pulling together her whimsical awards season looksâwhich included ballet-inspired Molly Goddard and Dior Haute Coutureâcame with its challenges. âWe decided to start working together over the Christmas holidays, so I had a very short time to get it all together when things opened up again in January. But when everything did open, I was ready and very inspiredâI think sheâs rather magical, and it all came together really organically,â she says.
Pikeâs Golden Globes look already has its own lore. While fine-tuning her outfit, the actor âentirely smashed upâ her face in a skiing accident. The two solved the problem with a lacy Philip Treacy veilâan immediate conversation starter, with social media decreeing it âcamp.â
While itâs been said repeatedly that the looks befit the Saltburn matriarch, Clark insists that theyâre just as much Rosamund as they are Elspeth. âIt really was and is an honor to help the world see her,â she says.
