Naseeruddin Shah says he is disappointed in Hindi films.

Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah recently said that Hindi films can only improve if filmmakers focus on creativity rather than just making money.

Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah recently attended an event and shared his disappointment with Hindi cinema. He believes that Hindi films can only improve if filmmakers focus on creativity rather than just making money. Shah also criticised the repetitive nature of movies made over the past century. He mentioned that he has stopped watching movies because he doesn’t like the current trends and feels disappointed by the lack of substance. Shah asked why people celebrate Hindi cinema’s long history when it lacks innovation, speaking of concern that audiences will soon lose interest in the same old stories.

“It really disappoints me that we take pride in saying Hindi cinema is 100 years old but we have been making the same films. I have stopped watching Hindi films, I don’t like them at all,” he said.

The veteran actor also shared some advice for filmmakers. He said that Hindi cinema can only regain its former glory if filmmakers stop focusing solely on making money. He suggested that serious filmmakers should portray today’s reality responsibly to avoid legal troubles or controversies. “There is hope for Hindi cinema only if we stop seeing them as a means to make money. But I feel it’s too late now. There is no solution any more because the films that are being watched by thousands will keep being produced and people will keep watching them, God knows till when. So those who want to make serious films, it’s their responsibility to show today’s reality and in such a way that they don’t get a fatwa, or the ED doesn’t come knocking on their doors,” Shah added.

On the work front, Naseeruddin Shah will be seen alongside Emraan Hashmi, Mahima Makwana, Mouni Roy, Rajeev Khandelwal, Vijay Raaz and Shriya Saran in the series, Showtime. The show, which will be aired on Disney + Hotstar, is directed by Mihir Desai and Archit Kumar. Showtime will delve into the unseen world that lies behind the camera.
