Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka will headline one of the most eagerly anticipated partnerships at the 2026 US Open Mixed Doubles Championship, with tournament organisers unveiling a star-studded entry list for the revamped event. The pairing brings together the 24-time Grand Slam champion and the reigning women’s world No.1, instantly making them one of the favourites to lift the title at Flushing Meadows.

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has once again attracted many of the sport’s biggest singles stars by retaining the revamped mixed doubles format introduced last year. The competition will be held across August 25 and 26, before the start of the singles main draw, with the winning pair set to receive US$1 million in prize money.

Djokovic and Sabalenka headline a glittering field featuring several blockbuster combinations. Among the other notable pairings are Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud, Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz, Naomi Osaka and Kei Nishikori, Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper, and Alex Eala and Felix Auger-Aliassime, ensuring one of the strongest mixed doubles line-ups in Grand Slam history.

A FRIENDSHIP THAT COULD PROVE DECISIVE

While their tennis pedigree alone makes them title contenders, Djokovic and Sabalenka also share a close friendship away from the court. Over the past couple of seasons, the pair have frequently been seen training together, exchanging advice and entertaining fans with their light-hearted interactions.

Sabalenka has often spoken about the respect she has for Djokovic, describing him as a player she looks up to and someone who has willingly shared his experience to help her handle the pressures of competing at the highest level.

Their bond has extended beyond tennis, with the duo making headlines last year after enjoying a “dream double date” alongside their partners and delighting fans with playful dance routines during tournament celebrations.

That existing chemistry could be a major advantage when they step onto the court together. Djokovic’s tactical brilliance, return of serve and unmatched Grand Slam experience perfectly complement Sabalenka’s explosive power and aggressive baseline game, making them one of the most balanced pairings in the tournament.

The mixed doubles event has quickly become one of the biggest attractions at the US Open following its overhaul. Six teams will qualify directly through their combined singles rankings after entries close on August 17, while the remaining places will be filled by wildcard entries and qualifiers. Defending champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori are also expected to return.
