Mr Swinney was legally sworn in as Scotland’s seventh first minister on the Courtroom of Session in Edinburgh on Wednesday morning.

He unveiled a largely unchanged cupboard however did appoint Kate Forbes as his deputy.

Mr Swinney was unopposed within the SNP management contest following Mr Yousaf’s resignation and promised a “new chapter” for the social gathering.

As first minister, he has pledged to make use of “respect and courtesy” to make the case for Scottish independence.
